Northville High School
DESIGNING NORTHVILLE HIGH SCHOOLS FITNESS CENTER EXPANSION
By: Don King ( Strengthio Fitness Detroit Sales Rep)
I met Coach John Kostrzewa at the old Northville High School on 8 mile Rd in 2000. I quickly noticed that John had the same passion for Strength & Conditioning as me. John wanted to give his students and athletes the safest and best strength & conditioning programs. First thing we did, repaired and maintained the equipment they had (old and tired but made safe and useful). We made sure the equipment they had was safe and reliable.
Around 2006, the new school opened. I was honored to supply equipment for the new school. They quickly out grew the fitness center space at the new school. A year or so later, they traded spaces with the wrestling room to get a larger strength training room. For next 10 years or so, they tried to pass a bond for a big fitness center expansion (Northville HS has over 2600 students). Finally, around May of 2017 the city passed a bond vote for school repairs and an 8,000 SF Fitness Center expansion at the High School.
I was honored to work with John and the head football coach Matt Ladach on the new space. We spent the next year or so designing the space. We had several meetings with every P.E. Teacher and Coach to make sure everyone’s needs were met. After several different layout versions, the layout and specific types of Strength & Cardio equipment was set, and ready for public bid.
We are honored to have been selected as the exclusive flooring and strength equipment supplier for the project. Northville HS is the result of countless hours of planning, auto-cad renderings and specification details.
Greatness was achieved! It is one of Michigan’s largest, best equipped High School Fitness Centers.
Romeo High School
Some notes about ROMEO HIGH Schools’ new fitness center.
By: Don King (Strengthio Fitness Detroit Sales Rep)
I met Coach Curt Rienas in 2008 when I visited the school about maintenance & repairs of their fitness equipment. At that time Curt was the assistance Football Coach. He was very knowledgeable in Strength & Conditioning and within a year or so he became the head Coach.
We made the best out of the existing equipment he had. We added some new equipment, some pre-owned equipment and made sure it all worked, safe and reliable, year after year.
When the city’s Bond Vote passed to build a new High School; Curt and I spent the next 2 years working on different layouts, visiting other schools and health clubs to inspect and “test drive” equipment.
Curt’s vision for the equipment floor plan changed from Power Racks along the walls to Double Half Racks down the middle. After showing him indoor TURF that could withstand heavy weight lifting, he settle on Half Racks along the walls, a 50’ x 12’ TURF section down the middle and enough weight stack machines to run P.E. efficiently.
ROMEO High Schools new fitness center is the result of Curt’s insistence on getting the best possible use of the space for Strength & Conditioning, and for the daily P.E. Classes.
It is one of Michigan’s best High School fitness centers.
We are proud and honored to be their equipment supplier!
